Practising yoga has its benefits for all of us, it improves both body and mind through gentle movements that are inclusive of all. I operate my yoga classes throughout gyms in Southampton with an emphasis on the well established method of Living Yoga which is an extension of Hatha Yoga, offering classes both to groups and individuals.
Hatha Yoga is ideal for beginners to break onto the yoga scene with you having the opportunity to learn the physical postures involved and a particular emphasis placed on your breathing. Poses within Hatha Yoga are typically held for longer, allowing you to better remember and solidify these. As a part of my Hatha Yoga classes in Southampton I incorporate breathwork in all of my lessons, with this being a fundamental part of what I teach.
It entirely depends on what you are seeking to gain from yoga as to how often you should be practising. If you are seeking to strengthen your muscles or increase your flexibility, you can perform yoga between three to five times per week, although it is important to make sure you are receiving adequate rest between sessions in order for your body to recover. As part of my yoga classes in Southampton I’ll teach you a routine that will get you off to the right start on your Hatha Yoga journey. Alternatively, if you are wanting to partake in yoga purely for a calmer state of mind, you can practise daily if you wish, and you do not necessarily need a full session every day to see the benefits of this, with an emphasis being placed on your breathwork as taught in my Southampton based lessons.
The physical benefits as a result of regular yoga sessions are vast but also depend on the type and intensity of yoga you are performing. At a fundamental level yoga can relieve pain symptoms, tone and build muscle, and detoxify your body and promote blood circulation. All of which and more can be achieved through the yoga classes I offer throughout Southampton, with a tailored experience depending on your goals.
Mental well-being can be greatly increased through yoga, with this activity proven to reduce stress and relax the mind. If you are someone who struggles with the ability to concentrate on your work, study or even just daily tasks, yoga can help forge a mindset of mental clarity to better cope with what lays ahead. Your overall outlook on life can become more positive through yoga, with the possibility to achieve a sense of calmness very real both during yoga sessions and between.
Exercise based Hatha yoga practices tend to place a strong emphasis on physical movement and can be quite vigorous, with an aim to build strength, flexibility, and endurance. These practices may involve holding postures for extended periods of time, flowing through sequences of postures, or incorporating more challenging poses.
Breath based Hatha yoga practices, on the other hand, place a greater emphasis on the breath and the use of breath control, or pranayama, as a means to calm the mind and bring about a state of relaxation. These practices may involve holding postures for shorter periods of time and may be more suitable for people who are looking for a more restorative or meditative practice.
It's worth knowing that both exercise-based and breath-based methods of yoga can offer a number of physical and mental benefits as mentioned previously, and the right type of practice for an individual will depend on their goals and preferences, something that I'll be able to guide you with.
